Start with your Shopify merchant workflow
For a Shopify store, affiliate software needs to attribute real completed orders to creators or partners, respect discount codes and product exclusions, and reverse commissions when an order is refunded. Recruitment is separate from tracking: a marketplace can help find creators, but some merchants already have a roster of partners and primarily need reporting and payments.
Check your store's Shopify plan, app access, checkout setup and international payout needs before selecting a platform. Most SaaS-focused subscription affiliate products are not interchangeable with storefront influencer tools; choosing one purely from the name can lead to integration gaps.

Shopify Collabs: understand the merchant and creator rules
Shopify Collabs is a merchant-facing tool for recruiting creators, sharing affiliate links and discount codes, tracking referred sales and paying commissions. Shopify's help center says it is available on supported merchant plans, excluding Starter and Retail. The vendor's public overview says it is free to install but creator payouts carry a merchant processing fee that must be included in costs.
There is a crucial creator-side limitation: Shopify says Collabs is not currently accepting new general creator signups, while brand invitations and creator applications can still be used. A merchant should not interpret a free installation as open recruitment access to every potential creator. Check plan eligibility, geography and invite workflows before launching a program.
Refersion: built around ecommerce merchants
Refersion offers integrations for Shopify and Shopify Plus alongside marketplace discovery and first-party tracking. Its free Marketplace Listing publishes a discovery offer, but it does not provide live commission tracking or payouts. A store that needs functioning attribution must select a paid plan.
Refersion Launch costs $39/month on monthly billing plus 3% of affiliate-driven sales, and Growth is $199/month plus 2%. If creator-attributed sales are high, the percentage fee can outweigh the fixed subscription difference. Growth adds advanced product and customer-level attribution and marketing integrations.
Tapfiliate and broader affiliate management
Tapfiliate lists Shopify among its prebuilt integrations and includes recurring commissions, coupon tracking and standard affiliate management. Its Launch plan is $89/month, with 50 affiliates, 5,000 clicks and 500 conversions each month. Teams running large creator campaigns should calculate overage exposure, not assume 'unlimited' based on a feature checklist.
Partnero documents a Shopify integration and provides affiliate, referral and influencer program types. It uses a subscription model without referred-revenue caps but sets program and user allowances by tier. Post Affiliate Pro documents an explicit Shopify integration path and offers flexible commission configuration; validate permissions, store app setup and plan request limits.
Prevent commission disputes before go-live
Treat affiliate tracking as a financial workflow: event correctness and auditability matter as much as recruitment and dashboards.
- Use test orders from affiliate links and creator coupon codes.
- Verify attributions when both a link and a coupon are present.
- Test cancellations, refunds, partial refunds and discount stacking.
- Determine commissions on net product revenue versus taxes and shipping.
- Verify all connected apps' permissions and storefront consent requirements.
- Reconcile approved creator commissions with actual Shopify order payments.
- Test payout method, payout country, minimum threshold and fee treatment.
Which Shopify merchant needs which product?
For a creator-focused Shopify-only store that meets eligibility rules, start with Shopify Collabs. For brands that need an affiliate marketplace plus advanced store-specific commission logic, Refersion is an obvious product to evaluate. For cross-platform programs, look at Tapfiliate or Post Affiliate Pro; for SaaS and ecommerce operating under one partner program, consider Partnero and validate implementation scope.
If your shop runs on WooCommerce instead, use the WooCommerce guide. If your business primarily bills subscriptions through Stripe, see the SaaS Stripe guide.
Shopify Collabs eligibility, creator access and payout fees
Shopify's merchant documentation says Collabs is available on Shopify plans except Starter and Retail. A merchant can recruit through invitations and store applications. However, Shopify's creator setup page says general new creator signups are not currently open; creators can join by direct invitation or a merchant application.
Shopify also limits open access to eligible creators in the US, UK and Canada. Merchants with an international influencer roster should validate recruitment and payout availability before treating Collabs as a universal creator marketplace.
Shopify's payment guide documents a 2.9% processing fee on automatically paid affiliate commissions. For a $100 sale with a 10% creator commission, that is $10 commission plus a $0.29 processing fee, excluding any other merchant costs. Compare this commission-based fee with Refersion's percentage of affiliate-driven sales; they use different denominators.
If you sell on WooCommerce rather than Shopify, use the WooCommerce affiliate software guide. For Stripe subscription billing, use the Stripe guide.
- Confirm your Shopify plan supports Collabs.
- Verify creator eligibility, invitation and application paths.
- Calculate processing fees using the correct commission or sales base.
- Test affiliate links and coupon codes across refunds and partial returns.
