What counts as genuine white-label affiliate software?
Short answer: White-label affiliate software lets a company present the partner experience under its own brand. But “white-label” can mean a changed logo, a custom domain, removal of vendor badges, branded emails, an embedded dashboard or a fully separate client account. These are different capabilities, and none automatically guarantees multi-client resale rights.
For SaaS businesses, the partner's trust is shaped by the signup page, dashboard, email links and payout notices. For agencies, permissions, data isolation and client handoff can matter more than colors. If you manage several clients, also read our affiliate software for agencies guide.
Five white-label levels to request in writing
| Level | What it means | Buyer question |
|---|---|---|
| Visual branding | Custom logo, colors and portal copy. | Does vendor branding remain in the footer? |
| Custom domain | Partners use partners.example.com. | Who manages DNS, HTTPS and redirects? |
| Communications | Branded sender name, email templates and support links. | Can the email sending domain authenticate with SPF, DKIM and DMARC? |
| Embedded access | Dashboard appears inside the SaaS application, sometimes with SSO. | Are token expiry, roles and iframe restrictions documented? |
| Agency isolation | Multiple client programs, separate data and permission boundaries. | Is multi-tenant access or resale contractually permitted? |
A platform can excel at the first three levels while offering no genuine multi-tenant agency model. Avoid equating a custom CNAME with software ownership. The merchant still needs to understand data processing, termination rights and exports.
Documented vendor capabilities
FirstPromoter
FirstPromoter documents a custom domain for its promoter dashboard and signup page on Business plans or higher. It also documents an embedded promoter dashboard that requires a developer, a custom domain and appropriate plan access. If an agency needs to embed the dashboard inside its client's app, test authentication, token handling and support boundaries. Do not assume an embedded iframe creates true single sign-on without a secure backend flow.
Rewardful
Rewardful's April 2026 portal-branding documentation describes logo, colors, custom domain and vendor-brand removal for its branded affiliate portal on Growth and Enterprise plans. The vendor explicitly notes that the customization applies to the affiliate portal, not the merchant administration dashboard. This distinction matters when your client expects a fully branded internal admin interface.
Partnero
Partnero markets a white-label partner portal and documents custom domain connection. Check its actual plan entitlements for the desired number of programs, staff seats, email branding and custom API needs. Its public pricing lists one program and one team member on Starter, three programs and three members on Partner, and more extensive options for Enterprise. Multiple programs in one account are not automatically proof of legally separate client tenants.
Tolt
Tolt's current Growth plan at $99/month advertises a branded portal on your own domain. Its Pro plan at $199/month explicitly removes the “Powered by Tolt” link. If hiding the vendor badge is a contractual requirement, verify the intended plan rather than assuming the entry-level portal has no branding. Confirm whether the portal domain, notifications and payout communications can all match the client's identity.
Post Affiliate Pro
Post Affiliate Pro documents a Branding Free feature that can replace product labels, footer references, favicon and related company links. Its documentation also discusses custom domains and optional noindex controls for the original vendor domain. This is a broader branding surface, but plan eligibility and hosted versus self-hosted deployment need confirmation.
Custom-domain implementation without breaking the portal
- Choose a dedicated subdomain such as
partners.example.comand verify ownership with the client. - Read the vendor's current DNS instructions; create only the specified CNAME or other record. Avoid guessing an IP address.
- Verify HTTPS certificate issuance and redirect behavior before inviting partners.
- Update signup, login, password-reset and affiliate-link URLs to the new domain where the vendor supports it.
- Review whether the vendor's original domain remains accessible and whether it creates duplicate public pages. Use supported canonical or noindex controls rather than a blind robots.txt block.
- Test the portal on desktop and mobile with a real test affiliate and check keyboard focus, contrast and error messages.
For branded email, validate sender identity and authentication separately. A custom portal URL does not guarantee email delivery from the same domain. Record who owns DNS and who is responsible for renewal and security updates.
Agency handoff and permission checklist
Agencies should establish the client as the contractual owner of the affiliate program and billing account wherever possible. Document administrator roles, partner-data export, audit logs, API credentials, payment-method ownership, privacy obligations, and what happens if the agency relationship ends. A branded portal is not a substitute for this governance.
Test whether one client administrator can view another client's affiliates or payment details. If the vendor lacks true tenant isolation, use separate client accounts instead of sharing an administrative login. A reusable brand template can be valuable, but it should not expose data across clients. See our cost comparison for the financial side of separate-account setups.
Live white-label acceptance tests
| Test | Expected outcome |
|---|---|
| Open portal and signup links | Client domain and valid HTTPS appear consistently. |
| Search visible page and email copy | No unexpected vendor badge or old brand identity remains on the purchased plan. |
| Send invitation and reset email | Correct sender, links and support contacts are used. |
| Embed dashboard, if required | Authentication, session expiry and access controls work. |
| Export program data | Client can retrieve affiliates, commissions and audit history. |
| Remove agency access | Client retains uninterrupted program ownership. |
Frequently asked questions
Is a custom domain the same as full white-label?
No. A custom domain changes the address, while vendor badges, emails, embedded authentication and administrative interfaces may remain branded.
Can I resell any white-label affiliate platform?
Not necessarily. White-label presentation and resale or multi-tenant licensing are separate contractual rights. Obtain written permission before marketing it as your own SaaS.
Should affiliate portals be indexed by Google?
Public marketing pages may be indexable, but login and private dashboard pages usually should not appear in search results. Use the vendor's supported settings and avoid exposing partner data.
