What counts as the total cost of affiliate software?
Calculate the recurring software subscription separately from the marketing reward itself. If your partners drive $10,000 in attributable sales and your contract pays 20% commissions, the $2,000 affiliate commission is an acquisition cost you agreed to pay—not automatically a software vendor fee. Some software charges against affiliate sales, some against actual partner payouts, some against tracked events, and some against usage tiers.
A transparent budget includes subscription + tracking/revenue overages + any software transaction or payout fee + third-party transfer fees + tax/setup costs, before you add the affiliate commissions themselves. Match each vendor's denominator to the correct amount. Our SaaS software buyer guide discusses integration fit alongside price.
- Subscription or platform fee, monthly vs annual commitment.
- Volume-based tiers: affiliate-attributed sales, clicks, conversions or tracking requests.
- Percentage processing: of commissions paid or referred sales—these are not equivalent.
- Affiliate commissions, refunds, clawbacks and held/unpaid rewards.
- Third-party PayPal/Wise/bank/FX fees and optional managed payouts.
- One-time onboarding, CRM integration, tax documentation, seats and migration.
Affiliate software pricing table: seven common choices
The figures below come from the vendors' own published pages reviewed on 16 October 2026 and refer to USD monthly billing unless clearly indicated. Plans include different feature bundles. This is a cost-method comparison, not a statement that every product supports the same billing integration or partnership model.
| Platform / plan | Published base | Usage metric or threshold | Notable additional cost |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rewardful Starter | $49/month | Up to $7,500 monthly referred revenue | Optional managed payouts: 3% of payout volume |
| FirstPromoter Starter | $49/month | Up to $5,000 monthly referred revenue | Reconcile actual payout method/fees by plan |
| Partnero Starter | $59/month | Unlimited referred revenue; one program and member | Managed payouts 7% if selected; extra seats $29/month |
| Tolt Basic | $69/month | Up to $10,000 monthly referred revenue | Manual payouts on Basic; Growth auto payouts 2% |
| Tapfiliate Launch | $89/month | 50 affiliates; 5k clicks; 500 conversions | Click overages $1.50/1k; conversion overages $15/1k |
| PartnerStack Spark | $0/month | Simplified Stripe tracking; own partners | 10% of commissions paid as processing fee |
| Refersion Launch | $39/month | Unlimited affiliates/clicks/conversions | 3% of affiliate-driven sales |
Rewardful costs: subscription tiers plus optional managed payouts
Rewardful's pricing publishes Starter $49 per month with up to $7,500 monthly affiliate-attributed revenue, Growth $99 with up to $15,000, and an Enterprise entry price of $149+ beyond that. These thresholds count sales attributed to affiliates, not commission payouts or your total company revenue. Rewardful states its platform transaction fee on affiliate-attributed revenue is 0%.
Its optional managed payout service charges a separate 3% fee on payouts. If your company pays out $1,000 in affiliate commissions, the managed payout charge is $30. This is separate from payment processor and affiliate withdrawal fees, which may vary by country/method. Ask whether the USD funding and ACH requirements apply to your business before relying on that payout service.
FirstPromoter costs: watch the revenue allowance first
FirstPromoter's public pricing grid lists Starter $49 per month up to $5,000 in monthly revenue generated by affiliates, Business $99 up to $15,000, and Enterprise starting at $149 for higher volume. These are vendor plan limits, not your commission rate and not the total revenue of the SaaS company.
A company generating $7,000 per month through affiliates is above Starter's allowance even if it is still smaller than many software businesses. Compare the next plan with Rewardful's different $7,500 Starter allowance. Also confirm payout processing, payment-tax workflows and whether advanced recurring or multi-tier commission rules are present in the plan you select. FirstPromoter alternatives discusses when the fee difference justifies a switch.
Partnero costs: uncapped revenue but seats and payout fees
Partnero's official plans list Starter at $59/month on monthly billing or $49/month equivalent annually, with unlimited affiliates, transactions and referred revenue. This makes the headline cost relatively predictable as affiliate-generated sales grow. However, Starter is one program and one team member; adding a seat costs $29/month.
Partnero also has two different ways to send commissions. Its standard automated payouts via a merchant's own PayPal/Wise account have no additional Partnero fee, although the payment providers may charge. Partnero-managed payouts have a published 7% fee applied to consolidated partner payouts. The difference can exceed the base subscription fee for high-payout programs: at $2,000 in partner commissions, managed payouts cost $140 on top of the selected plan.
Tolt costs: plan-dependent payout methods
Tolt's pricing page lists Basic at $69/month for up to $10,000 monthly revenue from affiliates. It includes manual payouts and a branded portal. The Growth tier is $99/month for up to $20,000 monthly referred revenue and lists automated payouts with a 2% processing fee. The words “manual” and “automated” change the operational cost and staff time you should budget.
If your referred revenue crosses $10,000, compare the Growth subscription and payout fee rather than extending the Basic figure beyond its published limit. If you pay partners yourself on Basic, direct bank or other transfer fees are additional merchant costs, and staff administration has a real budget impact even if there is no vendor managed-payout percentage.
Tapfiliate costs: click and conversion overages
Tapfiliate's pricing and feature table lists Launch at $89/month, including one program, 50 affiliates, 5,000 clicks and 500 conversions per month. Its published overage fees are $1.50 per extra 1,000 clicks and $15 per extra 1,000 conversions. That is a different denominator from the referred-revenue caps used by Rewardful and FirstPromoter.
For illustration, a program with 15,000 clicks and 700 conversions in a month would exceed Launch by 10,000 clicks and 200 conversions. Based on the stated per-thousand overage rates, the arithmetic works out to $15 in click overages and $3 for conversion overage units if billed proportionally; actual rounding and minimum-unit billing may differ. Confirm the exact invoice policy before treating those examples as a vendor quote. Tapfiliate Scale is listed at $179/month and increases included allowances.
PartnerStack Spark costs: free subscription is not zero fees
PartnerStack Spark's official page advertises a $0 monthly subscription and a 10% processing fee on commissions paid. This means a merchant paying $600 in eligible affiliate commissions would incur $60 in Spark processing fees. It is not a 10% fee on the $3,000 referred revenue that generated those commissions, nor is it an extra 10 percentage points on the affiliate's agreed rate.
Spark lists one user, simple Stripe tracking, application management and automated partner payouts. It does not include the PartnerStack B2B partner network. The full PartnerStack Launch/Growth/Enterprise product is priced by quotation. Comparing a “free Spark subscription” with a full partner ecosystem ignores product scope and could severely understate the actual contracted PRM cost.
Refersion costs: a percentage of partner-driven sales
Refersion Launch publishes a $39/month base on monthly billing plus 3% of affiliate-driven sales. If affiliates generate $3,000 in tracked sales, the Refersion percentage produces a $90 variable software charge; plus the $39 base, that is $129 before affiliate commissions, payment fees or taxes. A 3% share of referred sales is economically different from Rewardful's 3% fee on managed payouts.
Refersion is positioned strongly around ecommerce merchant workflows, so compare the platform's checkout compatibility as well as its dollars. When a SaaS uses Paddle Billing or Chargebee, a general online-store affiliate integration is not proof of native recurring invoices. Our Shopify guide and WooCommerce guide cover the store-side fit.
Illustrative pricing scenario A: $3,000 referred sales
Assumptions: one month, $3,000 in affiliate-attributed sales, commission rate 20%, giving eligible partner commissions of $600. No refunds, annual billing discounts, tax or payout transfer/FX fees. The comparison below separates software cost from the $600 paid to affiliates and assumes the listed entry plan can handle the volume.
| Software | Subscription | Vendor variable fee (illustrative) | Platform-side subtotal |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rewardful Starter | $49 | $0 without managed payouts; +$18 if used | $49 or $67 |
| FirstPromoter Starter | $49 | Not assumed; provider payout charges vary | $49 + payout costs |
| Partnero Starter | $59 | $0 via own PayPal/Wise Partnero fee; +$42 if managed | $59 or $101 |
| Tolt Basic | $69 | Manual payouts; external transfer fees not included | $69 + transfer/admin costs |
| Tapfiliate Launch | $89 | $0 only if usage remains within allowance | $89 + any overages |
| PartnerStack Spark | $0 | 10% of $600 commissions = $60 | $60 |
| Refersion Launch | $39 | 3% of $3,000 sales = $90 | $129 |
The $600 partner commission is payable in addition to every platform-side subtotal. The lowest platform subtotal does not prove the lowest total acquisition cost or the best product fit; renewal tracking, support and international payouts may change the recommendation.
Illustrative pricing scenario B: $12,000 referred sales
Keep the same 20% commission assumption. The company pays partners $2,400 on $12,000 in referred sales. Starter revenue caps at Rewardful, FirstPromoter and Tolt now force a tier review. Other fees remain dependent on payout method or usage volume.
| Software / eligible tier | Subscription | Illustrative vendor variable charge | Platform-side subtotal |
|---|---|---|---|
| Rewardful Growth | $99 | Optional managed payout: 3% × $2,400 = $72 | $99 or $171 |
| FirstPromoter Business | $99 | Payout/transfer charges not assumed | $99 + payout costs |
| Partnero Starter (one program) | $59 | Managed payout if selected: 7% × $2,400 = $168 | $59 or $227 |
| Tolt Growth | $99 | Auto payouts at 2% × $2,400 = $48 if used | $99 or $147 |
| Tapfiliate Launch | $89 | Unknown until clicks, conversions, affiliates checked | $89 + applicable overages |
| PartnerStack Spark | $0 | 10% × $2,400 commissions = $240 | $240 |
| Refersion Launch | $39 | 3% × $12,000 sales = $360 | $399 |
This comparison holds everything else constant for illustration. The listed 20% affiliate reward is $2,400 on top of those charges. A product with no listed referred-revenue cap can still have limits on affiliates, clicks, conversion counts, integrations, programs or customer support. Confirm plan eligibility with vendor terms before committing.
Hidden costs many comparison tables omit
- Currency conversion: international affiliate payouts may incur FX spreads and payment provider fees on top of vendor fees.
- Refund and chargeback reversals: paying before a sale settles creates overpayments to recover.
- Customer identity mapping: connecting a trial, Stripe customer ID and later invoice is critical for recurring commissions.
- Multi-provider billing: a Stripe integration alone does not prove support for Paddle Billing, Recurly or Chargebee.
- Team seats and programs: a $29 add-on seat or a one-program entry tier changes the total for agencies.
- Plan-triggered upgrades: revenue caps, click overages, conversions and request counts are priced on different units.
- Migration: exported affiliates, coupon codes and historical recurring entitlements may need technical reconstruction.
- Tax and funding restrictions: managed payouts may require supported countries, banking rails and tax-form handling.
- Opportunity cost: fraud, lost attribution, duplicate webhook events or wrong commission rules can dwarf the subscription price.
Use the recurring commissions guide and billing-provider compatibility matrix to validate costs that originate in integration quality rather than a vendor's price list.
How to make a realistic 12-month budget
Start with three affiliate revenue scenarios: present volume, 2× growth, and a downside case with refunds and fewer active partners. Estimate affiliate-driven sales, payout rate, currency distribution, conversion count and number of active partners. Then apply each vendor's actual unit of billing: percent of payout, percent of sale, revenue cap, or tracked events. Treat publicly unknown fees as unknown, not as zero.
- Use the published plan price for the billing term you intend to buy.
- Apply each vendor's usage limits to your forecast, including the first growth threshold.
- Separate commissions owed to affiliates from vendor charges.
- Choose manual, own-account automated, or managed payouts—and model the correct fees.
- Budget cross-border transfer and FX fees using your actual payout geography.
- Include additional program/seat/CRM/webhook costs and annual migration work.
- Retest the projected monthly cost at 2× partner-driven revenue.
An audit-ready estimate should record the vendor source URL, check date, billing mode, plan, assumptions and outstanding questions. That makes annual renewals easier to evaluate and keeps a changing SaaS price from silently turning into a false comparison.
FAQs about affiliate software fees
Which affiliate software has the lowest monthly subscription?
PartnerStack Spark lists $0 per month but takes 10% of commissions paid. A zero base subscription is not a zero-cost affiliate program. Across flat-fee products reviewed here, Rewardful and FirstPromoter start at $49 monthly but have different revenue caps.
Does Rewardful take a percentage of affiliate sales?
Rewardful says its transaction fee on affiliate-attributed revenue is 0%; it charges the selected subscription and has an optional 3% fee on managed affiliate payouts. The percentage bases are different.
Does Partnero's unlimited revenue mean unlimited programs?
No. The published Starter plan includes one program and one team member even though referred revenue, partners and transactions are unlimited. Extra seats and optional managed payouts can cost more.
What is the difference between affiliate sales fees and payout fees?
A 3% fee on $10,000 affiliate sales is $300, while a 3% fee on $2,000 in commissions paid is $60. Check the denominator before comparing percentages.
